“Wow, Jesus just f——- #TimTebow bad! And on Xmas Eve! Somewhere in hell Satan is tebowing, saying to Hitler ‘Hey, Buffalo’s killing them’”
Fucking hilarious. Even if you are a person of the book, you gotta agree that its a bit silly to think that the All Powerful God would interfere in something as petty and ridiculous as a football game.
In the future, history classes will be told that the United States in the 21st century had an explosion of homelessness at the same time that there were so many empty houses on the market that banks were bulldozing them to save the expense of maintaining them. The most flattering conclusion about us that will be derived from these facts is that we were a nation of deliberate and intolerable cruelty.
Lol I liked that part of the movie better until I realized Veidt was making Cthullu. Squid seemingly from an isolated island who (purportedly) is from space and that was programmed with the horrifying work of human artists (the inverse of artists gaining access to cosmic horror and regurgitating it as in Pickman’s model).
Regardless of how much I liked it conceptually I totally see what people mean when they say it was implemented shoddily… Thus I understand the decision to use the reactors in the movie (that send out Dr. signals) as they had even less time for foreshadowing.
"IN Egypt’s sandy silence, all alone, Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws The only shadow that the Desert knows:— ”I am great OZYMANDIAS,” saith the stone, ”The King of Kings; this mighty City shows ”The wonders of my hand.”— The City’s gone,— Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose The site of this forgotten Babylon.
We wonder,—and some Hunter may express Wonder like ours, when thro’ the wilderness Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace, He meets some fragment huge, and stops to guess What powerful but unrecorded race Once dwelt in that annihilated place”
I’m really tired of people on tumblr who preach that racism against white people and sexism against males don’t exist. Their argument is that this is merely discrimination and not a system called racism/sexism. That’s bullshit. Apparently proponents of this don’t recognize the difference between pan social institutional racism and sexism (which they define as the only racism and sexism) and racism and sexism in personal relations which, while inflected and partially determined by overarching global social constructs and systems, are as or more effected by more localized temporal and sociocultural structures these people deny either existence or importance to (therefore in a disgusting way, legitimizing that a white patriarchal ideal has ALL THE POWER IN THE WORLD).
Basically, white males DO have the most power in the world, but by denying that there is localized systematic discrimination against them which is still within the domain of the terms “racism” and “sexism”, YOU as much as them (proponents of white male idealization) are helping to maintain a euro-centric, patriarchal system of oppression by denying equality, power and most of all AGENCY in their own personal sphere to disadvantaged groups.Fuck y’all.
Final point: Racism and Sexism hurt EVERYONE. Non-whites and non-males suffer MUCH MORE, but it’s tragic that there is seemingly a whole blogosphere of people so willing to take their semantic principles to the logical extremes that they are undermining one of the oldest and most enduringly universal arguments against all discrimination: that it harms not only the discriminated against but also the discriminator by narrowing their mind to different cultures and attitudes both from within and without.
I take great interest in the study of ethnicity, diaspora and discrimination and therefore read a great deal about it BUT tell the truth when i say that even with how much liberal and radically left argumentation I have witnessed and agreed with Tumblr is the only place where I have seen so much blatant localized-privilege denying where people are unable to acknowledge that another viewpoint deserves not only consideration but the metaphoric “time of day”.
Note: This is coming from a male person of color who while part white, is always identified as a person of color and has no illusion that “inter-white ethnic discrimination” is racism or as numerically harmful as racism. Additionally I admit to being privileged for being well off, educated and male (as well as having american citizenship and speaking non regional American English among other things).
